Shannon gave me Jimmy's book for Christmas, and it is truly amazing. Everything in his book makes so much sense. He demonstrates how the antagonistic nature of the Religious Right combined with the politicians who cater to their wants creates a very hostile environment for groups/individuals who don't fit into their norm to which they have defined. Bush wraps himself in the banner of God and Christianity, yet he rarely follows the teachings of Christ. Issues ranging from foreign policy (not necessarily defense, but international family planning and such), poverty, equal rights, the environment, etc...
Jimmy's chapter on science and religion is truly amazing. Very to the point and articulate, he describes how he has combined his Christian roots in the bible with modern scientific research to arrive at a conclusion that thankfully doesn't fit into one of the "black or white" sides that our current political climate has created. He is sitting in the grey area that violates the bipolar principles that political gadflys refuse to occupy. Why do we have to pick one side, there are 15 sides to an issue. Not just one. This is not just a Republican thing, but Democrats engage in this mind constricting behavior as well.
So many good ideas come from Jimmy's book. It is a fast read that is so valuable.
Happy Christmas

Christmas was good today! I visited with family and got to know my cousins Trevor and Lauren (ages 6 and 3). I haven't been around them hardly at all because of going away to school and a family feud that is no more. I think a new feud started today. My sister and cousin Dakota got into it over a power scooter and it turned into a he said she said type thing and my Aunt acted ridiculous so we all fussed. The exchange ended when my aunt hung up on me. Oh well, time will heal things.
This winter break has been great. I have talked to my close friend Ali about a lot of things, mostly political/religious of course. I have truly enjoyed our conversations. When something happens in D.C. we get on the phone or online and bitch about whatever Bush is doing to screw up our country.
I need to start applying for internships and all that jazz. Time is ticking for the summer session.
Happy Christmas and Happy Holidays

Ha. This is Ali. I will totally make an identity soon...just not today...as I am off to watch a show about the antichrist...my mom and I are expecting the show to be nothing more than el presidente's picture flashing across the screen.
Oh James, how I have enjoyed our conversations. They keep me going. Without you, I might be inclined to give up the political fight...It does seem so hopeless sometimes.
My news: I am finally getting around to reading Harry Potter. And Michelle is attacking me on Live Journal.
I love you!!
Ali
