My BF Shannon bought me
With God on Their Side (I asked for it) for my birthday last July. From the look of the cover, I had no doubt that it was going to be a scathing, intellectually damaging account of the Religious Right and the politicians that succumb to their guerrilla tactics. Well, I was sadly mistaken. At best, it is a history of the R.R. and their influence on the U.S. political system 1960s - present. The author dedicates the book to his "traditional family." Hopefully that was a smidge of sarcasm. He also wrote a book glorifying America's savior. Thinking Christ? Thought wrong... Need a hint as to who could fill this post? Try a racist who made anti-semitic remarks to Nixon, which was audible on the infamous Nixon tapes. If you guessed Billy Graham, you have just earned 4 Angel points, redeemable upon your ascension into heaven, should you qualify to enter.
That was a ramble if I have ever witnessed (witnessed, lol) one and "guerrilla tactics" might have been a tad strong. But you know us sinners- We have to find something to fill the void. Joking aside. I'm an Episcopalian (recently confirmed, still accepting gifts), but the Religious Right is dangerous. They lack tolerance for anyone different from their uniformed image and they are constantly trying to infringe upon the U.S.'s separation of church and state.
Transitioning from moral degredation to environmental degredation--- ANWR: Brace yourself, the Bush administration is invading. To be fair, the law has been on the books for something like 8 decades allowing for drilling in the refuge, but come on! The oil gained from the exploitation of that beautiful Alaskan land (I was born in Alaska, so I am not just bullshitting on its pristine beauty) is only supposed to reduce American dependence on foreign oil like 2%. Disclaimer: I heard that figure on Hannity and Colmes tonight so it might be wholly and utterly unfounded, but it helps my argument. See there is the difference between Hannity and myself. I atleast include a disclaimer when I carelessly report facts.
Since it is holiday break and I am going to Europe this summer, I thought it would be responsible to get a job until second semester. The vast financial and spiritual rewards (rolls eyes) of my old gig at Life Line Medical Equipment lured me back. The office has been in shambles since I left in May 2004. They needed my expertise. Aside from my magic touch and motivational cheerleading, the job's real duties came back to me relatively easy.
More on the Europe trip later.
May all of you have a Merry Christmas in which the Lord fills your life with the warmth of the season: Unless of course you are gay, black, gay and black (then you're really screwed), poor, pro-choice, or progressive.
